BERLIN, 10 Dezember, 2024 – The AI start-up Xayn receives the 1. European AI Award for the development of Europe's first sovereign Legal AI, Noxtua. The AI Award is presented for the first time by the European AI Forum (EAIF), the European umbrella organisation of national AI associations, including the German AI Association (KI Bundesverband). The jury of renowned representatives from business, science and society from all over Europe honored Xayn in the ‘Business’ category.

‘We are delighted to receive the first European AI Award! We founded Xayn in 2017 out of research at Oxford and Imperial College London to combine powerful AI with European values – and wanted to demonstrate that we can develop world-class AI here in Europe. This award for Noxtua, Europe's first sovereign Legal AI, reinforces this. And we hope that this can also be an incentive for other companies – because Europe's digital sovereignty is more important today than ever before,’ emphasizes Dr Leif-Nissen Lundbæk (Co-Founder & CEO Xayn)

Europe's first sovereign Legal AI Noxtua

Noxtua assists lawyers in legal research and in analyzing and drafting legal documents. The Legal AI is legally competent, as it is based on proprietary AI models specialized in the legal context. Xayn trains the models using legal data selected and labeled by legal experts from the Legal AI Alliance, which the tech startup initiated with the international law firm CMS.

In addition, Noxtua is legally compliant, as it uses the secure and sovereign Open Telekom Cloud and additionally encrypts all data to protect sensitive information. Noxtua meets the high professional and data protection requirements for lawyers (Section 203 of the German Federal Criminal Code (StGB) and Section 43e of the Federal Code for Lawyers (BRAO)). Uploaded information and documents are only processed in working memory and not stored long-term. In addition, independent audit certificates attest to the security of Xayn (ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001:2024, ISO/IEC 27017:2021, ISO/IEC 27018:2020). This makes Noxtua to the secure, independent, and specialized European Legal AI.

Founded out of a research project at the University of Oxford and Imperial College London, Xayn has been characterized by in-depth expertise in the development of highly efficient GDPR-compliant AI solutions since 2017. Germany's largest business law firm CMS brings the legal expertise and additional development experience. The international firm is specialized, among other things, in IT and AI law and develops its own legal tech applications as a pioneer in the legal market to support internal and external processes.
