Xayn launches Legal AI NOXTUA RESEARCH
AI-based research makes legal work easier for lawyers
Noxtua Research searches for legal texts, cites sources, and answers legal questions
Noxtua Research is based on proprietary AI models specialized in law
Xayn's search model outperforms Open AI’s most powerful search model on average by a factor of 2 on legal text benchmarks
BERLIN, November 20, 2024 – The AI startup Xayn expands Europe's first sovereign Legal AI Noxtua with AI-supported research. Lawyers can research legal issues with the legally compliant and competent AI. Noxtua Research answers research queries by taking context into account, providing sources and references from court and authority decisions as well as laws to meet the complexity of legal research. With this newest addition to its AI SuiteNoxtua closes a large gap in the previous legal AI market.
Noxtua Research is based on the Noxtua Research Model (Question-Answer Model), which is fed by the proprietary Noxtua LLM and the recently launched search model Noxtua Voyage Embed, which outperforms the most powerful search model from Open AI by a factor of 2 on legal text benchmarks. The specialized search model is a joint development of the Oxford spin-off Xayn, the Stanford spin-off Voyage AI, and dejure.org, one of the largest German legal databases. All AI models are trained by Xayn with exclusive high-quality legal datasets selected and labeled by legal experts specifically for training Noxtua.
Noxtua meets the high professional and data protection requirements for lawyers (Section 203 German Criminal Code (StGB), Section 43e German Federal Code for Lawyers (BRAO)). Thus, users can also include sensitive data in their research queries, uploaded documents, and prompts and save themselves time- and labor-intensive anonymization attempts.
AI-supported research saves lawyers time and resources
"With Noxtua Research, we are taking another big step towards the development of secure sovereign AI from Europe. We have already seen with the very positive feedback for our Legal AI that there is a great need for such independent and powerful technologies. At the same time, this also clearly shows that we are now entering the consolidation phase after the first global AI hype – companies want practical, tangible solutions that can also be implemented and provide concrete benefits. We are pleased that we can contribute powerful technology Made In Germany," emphasizes Dr. Leif-Nissen Lundbæk (CEO & Co-Founder Xayn).
"Lawyers cannot use off-the-shelf AI but need specialized tools. Noxtua combines Xayn's AI expertise with the legal expertise of legal experts such as CMS. In the demanding everyday life of lawyers, easy-to-use, reliable solutions are needed that also meet high compliance, security, and data protection requirements. The Noxtua Legal Copilot is already such a solution that is specifically tailored to the special needs of lawyers. The new research offering is a seamless addition and will further facilitate the work of lawyers and save them time and resources. I have had very positive experiences with Noxtua Research", explains Dr. Markus Kaulartz (lawyer with a focus on AI topics and partner at CMS Germany, as well as Co-Initiator of Noxtua).
"A significant part of legal work involves researching relevant case law. Noxtua Research is a real game-changer here, as the AI is legally competent through training with legal data. The AI understands the technical language and can apply it precisely. Above all, correct and very precise case law references are provided. As a member of the Legal AI Alliance, we are pleased that we can accompany the development of Noxtua Research with our expertise", emphasizes Dr. Stanislaus Jaworski (Managing Partner at NORDEMANN).
Noxtua Research as a further development of Europe's first sovereign legal AI
Noxtua Research is now available in the first edition and can be used via its own interface. Alternatively, Noxtua Research can also be used – at a later stage – via API and integrated into own systems or other tools – for example, in the Legal AI platform of Libra, with which Xayn collaborates. The research AI is already being tested by selected companies and law firms and will be integrated into the Noxtua Legal Copilot at a later date. This AI assistant analyzes legal documents in a few moments, summarizes them, writes new text proposals, e.g., for contracts, and switches seamlessly between different languages. With the extension of the research function, lawyers can research legal issues and search for legal texts to incorporate the findings into their work.
Xayn uses a secure sovereign EU cloud for its GDPR-compliant legal AI offering and additionally encrypts all data to protect sensitive information. This means that Noxtua meets the high professional and data protection requirements for lawyers (Section 203 of the German Federal Criminal Code (StGB) and Section 43e of the Federal Code for Lawyers (BRAO)). Uploaded information and documents are only processed in working memory and not stored long-term. In addition, independent audit certificates attest to the security of Xayn (ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001:2024, ISO/IEC 27017:2021, ISO/IEC 27018:2020).
Founded out of a research project at the University of Oxford and Imperial College London, Xayn has been characterized by in-depth expertise in the development of highly efficient GDPR-compliant AI solutions since 2017. Germany's largest business law firm CMS brings the legal expertise and additional development experience. The international firm is specialized, among other things, in IT and AI law and develops its own legal tech applications as a pioneer in the legal market to support internal and external processes.
